Altair

San Pedro Wines now own the Altair vineyard though initially, in 1999, it was started as a joint venture between San Pedro and a winery in France. They make only premium and ultra-premium ranged, Bordeaux style red wines and both are done with the same magical craft. The winery is set in the Cochapoal region, the heartland of the winegrowing sector in Chile, aligned with the foothills of the Andes. The vineyards are all on vertical slopes with the topmost point being about 650 meters.
The harvest starts in February and March for white and red wines respectively. The final grape pickings are concluded by the end of April or May. Their specialty is in the fact that their blends vary from year to year with regard to which grapes are more suited in a particular year. From the picking of grapes to the removal of stems- everything is done manually ensuring you state of the art and naturally clean wine. Best quality French oak is specifically used for the barrels.
All the wines exhibit lots of intricacy, long finishes and delicate tannins. Their wines can be aged well over a decade. The wines from Altair have always been rated highly in wine competitions. The Guia de Vinos de Chile rated wines from Altair vineyard second among the best ten red wines in Chile.
